Q2:
How long should I cellar my wine for?
A: It is hard to give a general answer to this
question, so for specific wines that you want to know more about
feel free to send us an email or give us a call. Wines sealed with
a cork should be stored lying down on their sides but screw-capped
wines can be cellared upright. ::

Q3:
Why do you use screw-caps?
A: Te Whare Ra has been using screw-caps since
the 2001 vintage on all whites, and in 2003 all the production was
sealed with screw-caps. We believe that screw-caps are the best
possible closure we can use for our wines. We feel that the level
of taint, and other issues associated with bottling under cork are
not acceptable – we know that by bottling our wines under
screw-cap, they will be as we intended when you come to open them
– whether that is the day you buy a bottle or after you have
cellared it for 10 years. ::

Q4:
Where does Gewürztraminer come from?
A: The direct German translation of gewürz
is “spiced” but in this context the name
Means “perfumed”.
Gewürztraminer in the second most planted variety in Alsace
(France), and is planted in significant amounts in Germany and Austria.
As to the new world Gewürztraminer has found a happy home in
New Zealand as well as finding some success in the wine-growing
regions of Oregon and Washington in the USA.
